Sanctuary

I remember the nights, in your bed
I’d open my arms
Wide, without judgment
My eyes would say
Come into them, come into me
Settle your body, your wandering spirit
Lay your head upon my chest
Feel your heart beat slowing
Wave after wave of calm
For the broken man
Who only sees the fire
Rising up and up
He barely keeps it at bay
And, I would ask nothing of you but to
Let me be your sanctuary, your safety
Your retreat
And you would give in
And sink slowly into me
And into our love
