last night

in the greatest desperation

as my heart repeated your name

tear stains still wet on my cheeks

I got down on my knees

I prayed to a God

I don’t even know if I believe in

and I begged him

I pleaded

that if you were really mine

to please bring you back to me

and if you are not

for the sake of my sanity

to let you stay away forever

and so here I sit

with hope, with hurt, with your name

still on the tip of my tongue
