The Blood & The Bones

we hear the musical thump

of heartbeats

metallic movements

and blades swishing through heavy air

it’s time to dance

sway

into the fray

into the gray

the waltz begins

my partner, dressed in steel

I know her body well

a lady locked and loaded

I’ve held her curves blindfolded

I lead

us out onto the floor

chaotically coordinated war

bodies moving to the killer sound

from ready to spent

over as fast as it begins

we go from peace

to a brass glittered ground

hoping the dance of death

will make heroes of men

but until the time comes again

my lady and I

take a bow
