a battered heart

the color of jade

sleeping in trepidation’s refuge

finally beyond heartbreak’s hell

it will not survive

another pierce in the armor

another fall

another fail

grabbing the rails

hold on

stay chained

to the fear

let it be

slumber, sleep

in a cage of bone

for it is safe there
