I broke my own rules for you
coming up above the water
to seek out the light
and you were there
searching
lost or so I thought
I swam in our sea of sin and wanted it to mean something
unintentionally coming undone
exposed one button
one seam
one thread at a time
unveiled and laid out bare so you could lose yourself
then find yourself inside
they paint me as a sinner
yet I too want to find the thing that shines
but I am often merely a distraction
or a guide
a way to get to all the things you’d forgotten how to find
then left to tread in the water
discarded, denied
and I hear the boats coming closer now
it’s not yours though, not this time
I broke my own rules for you
and now I pray the price
the blood
& the bones
To all the boys that came to me before they were ready. Who found me in the midst of fog and used me as a lighthouse or a means to find their way to it. A fantasy, a place to float for awhile. Even if it was meant to mean nothing…I deserved better than that. I am worth more than just a way home or a way to waste your time. And I can’t blame only you because I knew far too soon that you weren’t worth mine. But I give myself to those in need hoping each time it will be different ..
Even to my own demise.
