you can find many words for courage
grit, fortitude, bravery
even valor for the right situation

whatever it is, I don’t have enough of it to tell you
of the life we could’ve had
what good would it be to pass this pain on to someone else?

but I will make it up to you
for in the next
I do believe
like the tortured poets
and the most sorrowful writers say
I will look for you first

the blood
& the bones

for the you before the world made us into the damaged people we became..

maybe I wrote this about him

or maybe, if anyone is able to understand what it’s like to know there must be a parallel universe where the person I might have been lives, I wrote this about myself..

and maybe it’s both.
